Training to be a diver

When you join the Flintshire Sub-Aqua club (FSAC) you will pay a subscription fee, part of which is for the BSAC and part for the FSAC. The BSAC part joins you to the largest dive club in the world and gives you third party liability insurance as well as a monthly copy of DIVE magazine. The FSAC part joins you to our club and from that point all the basic training up to and included Dive Leader is included within your annual subscription. When you commence training you purchase a training pack which includes a copy of the Diving Manual, the Ocean Diver Student Study Book and a Qualification Record Book. Scuba training with a BSAC branch is available to anyone who is over the age of fourteen and medically fit. Parental approval is required for anyone under the age of eighteen.

These courses are taught within the club and cover diving from an introductory level up through four diving grades to the BSAC Advanced Diver level. Other qualifications are available following successful completion of these courses, these other qualifications are taught at the national level. The programme is designed to build confidence and self reliance, whilst keeping safety uppermost. Diving skills are taught progressively so that each new experience is built upon step by step.

Both the theory and the sheltered water training are at the swimming pool in Holywell Leisure Center.

Open water training usually begins at inland dive sites, and then progresses to the coastline around North Wales depending on weather conditions.

We also regularly provide a wide range of Skill Development Courses to broaden member's skills and diving experience. Some of which are listed below.

The British Sub Aqua Club offers a wider choice of courses at multiple locations around the UK, these are open for any member of any BSAC branch to attend.
